Lettie Rogers Obituary

Lettie Jane Benbow Rogers

Feb 22, 1937 - Sep 12, 2024

Lettie Jane Rogers, 87, of Winston-Salem, NC, gained her wings on September 12, 2024.

Jane was born February 22, 1937, to the late Donald Gray Benbow and Blanche Edith Voss Benbow.

Jane married her high school sweetheart, Richard, April 21, 1957, and they enjoyed 65 years together.

Jane attended nursing school for two years, leaving after her marriage to accompany Richard to Pocatello, ID, where he played baseball, and to become a wife and later a mother. After returning to Winston-Salem and raising their three boys, Jane explored her love for dance. She participated in ballroom competitions as far away as New York, frequently earning top honors. She furthered her experience with dance roller skating, also successfully competing.

In addition to dancing, Jane loved the water and the beach. However, after camping in the early years of their marriage and parenting, Jane put her foot down and said no more camping; they had to stay in a motel, or she was not going! Jane and Richard looked forward to and enjoyed their annual family beach trips. She was able to "put her toes in the water" one last time in July prior to her passing.

Jane worked at Lamberti's Salon and Day Spa for several years before retiring. Being the "social butterfly" she was, Jane thoroughly enjoyed her time there and remained friends with many. Jane would often walk through the salon reminding the ladies to "put on their lips" or dancing through the aisle when a song she liked was playing.

After retiring, Jane would often remind Richard that the kitchen had also retired, and they would enjoy dining out.

Jane was a long-time member of Burkhead United Methodist Church (now Sherwood Forest United Methodist) and attended as her health permitted.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and eldest son, Jeffrey Kane.

She leaves behind sons, Jay (Cheryl) and Joel (Lisa); daughter-in-law, Sharon; grandchildren, Chad (Kayla), Adam (Jessica), Evan (Brooke), and Abby. Also, great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lincoln, Micah and Baby Rogers due March 2025; and step-great-granddaughters, Alex and Aven. She is survived by her sister, Molly Bohn; and several nephews and friends.

A celebration of life will be at Sherwood Forest United Methodist Church, October 20, at 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Sherwood Forest United Methodist Church, The Life Center of Davidson County and Trellis Hospice of Winston-Salem.

Thank you to the workers at The Life Center of Davidson County where she attended while able and Trellis Hospice for their support and care during Jane's sickness.

Online condolences may be made at Salem Funeral Home.
