Norman Christensen Obituary

CHRISTENSEN WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Norman Richard Christensen passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, November 18, 2009. He was born in Hutchinson, MN on November 5, 1941, the son of Alvin Harold Christensen and Viola Nelson Christensen. Mr. Christensen retired from NCS/Pearson with 37 years of service as a field engineer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of Reynolda Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed gardening, old-time bluegrass music, calling in to WSJS and talking with his family and buddies on the phone. "Grampy" especially loved making S'mores with his grandchildren and giving them tractor rides. Mr. Christensen was a generous man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a great husband, father and grandfather; but a greater man. Preceding him in death were his father; and two brothers, Nathan and Vernon Christensen. Surviving are his devoted wife of 43 years, Linda Christensen; six children, Lea Church-Brendle (Gray), Ellen Caldwell (Eric), Richard Christensen (Julie), Marcia Boyles (Jody), Bethanie Barnes (Jon), and Brad Christensen; ten grandchildren, Madison and Mason Church, Avery, Natalie and Hudson Brendle, Hannah and Camden Caldwell, Hayley, Jack and Landry Boyles. Also surviving are his mother; two sisters, Kathryn Hantge (Everette) and Ardys Euerle (Burt); one brother, Kenneth Christensen (Pam); and his beloved dogs, Finley, Chester and Brownie. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, November 23 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Dr. Richard Little officiating. Burial will follow at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, November 22 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, CO 80995, 1-800-232-6459.

Dear Linda and family,
We were shocked and saddened by your news of Norman's passing. We had such a good visit at Alvin's funeral. I always enjoyed seeing Norman and couldn't help but see the resemblence in personality and looks to my brother Mark. Norman and I agreed on most things politically and religiously so I really looked forward to family get-to-gethers. I will try to send a gift to Focus on the Family in memory of him. I love that organization also. All our love to you as you let Jesus minister his peace to you during this time. I'm so glad you have those wonderful children to remember him by and to help bring you confort. I always admired your marriage and family. Love, Evangeline Skilbred Anderson and family

Linda & family,
I am Norman's cousin, DeeGee. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I did get to talk to him a couple years ago when I was visiting Viola. We laughed and giggled over the phone just like we did when we were kids. I have great memories of playing at the farm that I will cherish forever. I have not seen him since I left MN when I was 16 and he was 17. I know he had to be a great man, because he was a great kid. I will love him always. You and your family are in my prayers.

Dear Linda and family, please accept our condolences, it must be so hard to believe he's gone.
He lived his faith and was never afraid to profess it. I enjoyed visiting with Norman as a cousin.
He will be missed.
We will try to make it over for at least Sunday night viewing.
