Ruby Embler

1940 - 2026

Ruby Mickey Embler, 85, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Morningside of Concord.

Ruby was born on August 26, 1940 in Surry County, NC; she was the daughter of the late Sidney Grider Mickey and Opal Ayers Mickey. She lived as a child at Pilot Mountain and lived in the Wallburg area most of her life. She retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies after 33 years of service. Before declining health, Ruby was an active member at New Friendship Baptist Church as a Greeter, Benevolence Committee member, WMU, Senior Ministry and Chairman of the Flower and Decoration Committee for ten years. She had a love for God's creation of beautiful flowers. After retiring, she enjoyed family, especially her Grandchildren, church, gospel music, shopping and going to the beach each October.

Survivors include, two sons and two daughters-in-law, Barry Embler and wife Tricia of Seven Lakes, NC and Gary Embler and wife Kelli of Harrisburg, NC; eight special grandchildren that were loved by their (MA MA); Cameron Embler and wife Sydney, Austin Embler, Brianna Embler, Elliott Embler and wife Claire, Elyssa Embler and fiancé Tra McManus, Kaelyn Embler, Kelsie Grace Embler, and Kristyn Embler; step-grandchildren, Lindsay Lovin and fiancé Eric Tolson and Drew Gephart and wife Chelsea; five great-grandchildren, Paisley, Haven, Layla, Brody, and Ariya; four step-great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Addison, Kendell, and Will; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha Garrison and Alvin and Ellen Hodges and Terry; brother and sister-in-law, David Mickey and wife Donna; sisters-in-law, Pam Mickey and Shelia Mickey; brother-in-law, Grover Winstead; and several special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her High School Sweetheart and Husband of 63 years, Donald Odell Embler; her son, Steve Embler and his companion, Donna Browne; sisters, Mary Holt and Ann Winstead; and her brothers, Robert (Bob) Mickey, Ron Mickey, and Wayne Mickey.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM at New Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
