William Fearrington Obituary

William Edward Fearrington

Jun 7, 1948 - Jul 24, 2024

William "Butch" Edward Fearrington, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born June 7, 1948, in Forsyth County to the late Eric and Mildred Vogler Fearrington. Mr. Fearrington was a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Eric and Richard Fearrington; and a sister, Maryann Ragland. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Cynthia Eastman Fearrington; son, Matt Fearrington (Lauren) of Boone, NC; daughter, Sarah Fearrington MacReynolds (Bob) of Lewisville; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Molly MacReynolds. Also surviving are several nieces; and nephews. He was passionate about his family and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His passing occurred while on a family beach vacation where he was surrounded by those closest to him. He also loved his dog, Pebbles, and she frequently accompanied him on his errands. In 1970, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he was an avid Tarheel basketball fan. After graduating, he began his career at Integon, and he ultimately retired from Hanes Brands. He lived his life with a sense of gratitude and contentment, never wanting more than he had.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with Rt. Rev. Sam Gray officiating. A committal will follow at the church columbarium. A reception will be held for family and friends following the committal at the church. Because he had a heart for helping those in need, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, honorariums be made to the Cancer Benevolence fund at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Rd. Winston-Salem, NC, 27104.

Butch and I were school mates through Moore Elementary, Dalton Jr High, RJR High and Carolina. He was the super smart humble young man who was respected by all who knew him. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. With deepest sympathy, Fred Crouch

I had the pleasure of knowing Will as a classmate from 1st grade at Moore school, friend and as a next door neighbor for many years in Lewisville. While I addressed him as adults as "Will", I knew him as "Butch" for the majority of years! In retrospect, I realized as an adult what an anchor he was during my high school years at a time when I was somewhat rebellious and not taking life as serious as I should. Butch was the reminder to me that things would be just fine as I witnessed him as a classmate who was studious, involved much earlier in sports and taking advantage of clubs in high school that prepared him for college. I lost track of him after graduation but not at all surprised he was a distinguished student and graduate from Chapel Hill. We reconnected when Cynthia and he became our neighbors and what a blessing that has been. I enjoyed his easy going manner, fun banter, concern for our pets seemingly as much as Pebbles and just being a wonderful neighbor along with Cynthia. While we were terribly saddened at his passing, we're confident his faith in Christ has allowed him the eternal rest promised to those who believe. So we can declare with the Apostle Paul that we do not grieve as those that are without hope! One day...a great reunion.
