Maurice Delmore Obituary

Maurice "Morie" Delmore

LAKE DELTON - Maurice "Morie" Delmore, age 78, of Lake Delton, WI, passed away unexpectedly at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo, WI on Friday morning, May 10, 2024.

Funeral services, Military Honors, and a Celebration of Life will be held at Trappers Turn Golf Club on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Military Honors and service at 2:15 PM, and a luncheon at 2:45 PM to gather and fondly remember Morie's life.

Morie graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1963 and completed a further year of study at MATC. In 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Becker.

He enrolled in the Ninth Chemical Ordinance Class while in the Army Reserves and was called to active duty and bravely served alongside many of his friends from Wisconsin Dells and the surrounding area while in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Upon his return home, he established Kilbourn Roofing, a successful business that has remained a staple in Lake Delton for over 50 years.

Morie's dedication extended far beyond his professional life. He was a respected servant and leader in many community capacities. He was a member and leader in both the Lake Delton Fire Department and Ambulance Services, he served on the Wisconsin Dells School Board as both a member and President, was a coach for the WDHS High sShool baseball team and helped lead the team to a state championship in 1986. Morie also coached baseball for the American Legion teams, and many of his children, grandchildren and students throughout the Dells benefited from his knowledge and love for athletics.

Morie was also a proud member of both the VFW and the American Legion and held the posts of past Commander and Chaplain for the American Legion, and past Chaplain for the VFW. He was a fierce advocate for Veterans, and spent many years dedicating his time serving at the tents during Wo-Zha-Wa, leading Bingo games with the nursing home residents in the Dells and making visits to the Veterans at the Tomah VA.

His many interests included a passion for stock car racing as both a competitor and supporter, and spending time with his long list of lifetime friends. He also relished in how much joy it gave him to ride in his beautifully restored 1964 Chevy Impala and loved to feature it in local car shows. He also loved spending time in the outdoors, including many fishing trips to Canada, and found great comfort in his cabin in Warrens; hunting, riding ATVs, clearing trails and creating a legacy space for his family.

Although his service and dedication to his community was lifelong, he considered his role of husband, father of nine, grandfather of twenty-five, and great-grandfather of two as his greatest accomplishment, for which he gave all the glory to his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Morie is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Doris; his children: Annie (Michael) Delmore-Keller, David (Jenny), Timothy, Sara (John) Warner, Rebecca Koenig, Elizabeth (Chadd) DeGrush, Thomas, Nathan (Nici), and Matthew; brothers: Jim (Connie), John (Jan), and Mike (Suzie); sisters: Judi (Don) Kieta, Debbie (Bob) Fish, Mary Delmore, Pattie Delmore (Jene) Bork, Ginny Klein, and Kathy (Russ) O'Leary. He was preceeded in death by his parents and two brothers: Daniel and William.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) chapters of Wisconsin Dells.
