Shirley Joan Benzine

SUN PRAIRIE - Shirley Joan Benzine, age 92, of Sun Prairie, passed away at Agrace Hospice on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. She was born on October 11, 1932, in Lodi, WI, to Elmer and Anna (Lyster) Anderson.
Shirley graduated Valedictorian of Rio High School in 1950, graduated from Madison Business College in 1951, and graduated from MATC in 1980.
She married Ralph J. Benzine on October 9, 1954, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio, WI. Shirley had many occupations including selling Avon, being a homemaker, and serving as Bookkeeper for the Rio School District for 25 years.
She belonged to the Red Hats Society, Investment Club, Ladies Aid, and book club. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, reading, knitting, and spending time at her cabin in Briggsville, WI, but what brought her the greatest joy was watching her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in all of their sports and activities.
Survivors include sons: Dale (Laurel) of Johns Creek, GA, Dan (Sharon) of Denton, TX, DuWayne (special friend Ruth Schneider) of DeForest, and Doug (Carol) of Sun Prairie; grandchildren: Nicholas (Trisha) Benzine, Jaclyn (Mike) Ullman, Amanda Benzine, Ashley (Joe) Pritchard, Derek (special friend Josie Linde) Benzine, Tyler (Kelsey) Benzine, Abigail Benzine, Alyxandra Benzine and Alyssa Benzine. Her survivors also include her great-grandchildren: Maddux and Avery Benzine, Hadley Benzine, and Adrienne and Noah Benzine; sister, Joycelyn Lienke; brother-in-law, Richard Benzine; and sister-in-law, Ethel Uttech. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Anna Anderson; husband, Ralph Benzine; parents-in-law, Louis and Hilda Benzine; sister, Arlene (Tom) Provot; brothers: James (Ruth) Anderson and Marvin (Eunice) Anderson; brothers-in-law: Lyle (Oma) Benzine, Merlyn Lienke, and Carl Uttech; and sisters-in-law: Joyce (Merlin) Reierson, Judith Benzine, and Judy Benzine.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rio with Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will follow at Ohio Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
