Peter Greeneway Obituary

Peter J. Greeneway

Wisconsin Rapids - Peter J Greeneway, age 57, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Friday, April 9th, 2021 at House of The Dove Hospice Home in Marshfield, WI.

Pete was born April 12th, 1963 in Wisconsin Rapids to Philip and Audrey (Anderson) Greeneway. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and graduate of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. Pete was a proud Red Raider alum. Staying up to date with Lincoln sports and retracing his steps through the school halls brought him joy and meaning as he approached his death. Pete was always interested in Wisconsin Rapids happenings and history. Pete truly cared about the wellbeing of his hometown citizens.

Pete had a contagious smile and witty sense of humor. He was quick to laugh if you did something goofy and found humor in all people. This made Pete an easy-going guy and comfortable to be around. Perhaps this was Peters greatest life work, making those around him feel lighter and loved.

Life seemed to slow down around Pete. You could find him enjoying the outdoors working in the yard with his Yellow Lab, Grady. Caring for the yard, shoveling snow, blowing leaves, were rituals for caring for creation and helping out around the house. The priest-like way he shoveled snow and cut grass is a testimony to his improving the world he would leave behind.

If Pete had it his way life would have slowed down to a stop on a Northwoods fishing trip. Frozen in time are the memories of Grady on the floor of the boat, fish not really biting, a Packer or Badger game on the radio, and maybe joined by family or friends.

Peter was preceded in death by his grandparents; his dad, Philip; and his beloved dog, Grady. He is survived by his mother, Audrey Greeneway; his brother, Jeffrey (Jenny) Greeneway and sister Laurie (Douglas) Espeland as well as one niece, Elyse, and three nephews, Garret, Jared and Jacob. He is further survived by his Uncle Carl, Aunt Arlette, Uncle Arthur, Aunt Judie and cousins. Pete also leaves behind his neighbors Chuck and Kim Kizewski whom he loved like family.

Close friends and family are invited to Herman-Taylor Funeral Home on Saturday, April 17th at 9:30 A.M. for a visitation, funeral service at 11:00 A.M. A special thank you to the staff at Ascension Hospice at Home and The House of The Dove for their wonderful care.

Yes, Peter was a kind soul and the sentiment that his greatest life work was making those around him feel lighter and loved is so true. I can still hear his easy laugh and see that grin. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing and for your loss.

I remember Peter being kind, compassionate and warm. He was a natural athlete, particularly in football as an LHS quarterback. I am saddened to learn of his passing. My memories will always be of his beautiful smile.

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Pete. He was always so kind and went out of his way to say “Hello.” Greenway family, I’m so sorry for your loss. Heaven has gained another wonderful soul. John and Kari Reinke
