Sally Remaklus Obituary

Sally Pitzer Remaklus, 73, of Attica, Indiana, passed away at 7:24 PM Tuesday August 19, 2025 in Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital. Her life was a testament to love, family, and the power of a good story-and a well-placed comma. Born to Ivan Reid and Anita June Pitzer, Sally grew up in Attica - the town that she would always call home. She walked the halls of Shawnee Elementary and Attica Jr. Sr. High School, graduating in 1970. At Indiana State University, she met a fellow Sycamore, Neil Remaklus, in a ballroom dancing class, and a whirlwind romance began. They married in June 1973 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Attica. After a brief move to Indianapolis, Sally and Neil found their way back to her roots, settling on her family's farm in Attica. She spent a year teaching at Attica High School before embracing her most important role: a mother to Abby and Joseph. While raising her two children, Sally's passion for learning never wavered. She earned her master's degree from Indiana State University, preparing for a return to the classroom that would span four decades and touch the lives of hundreds of students. From Tuttle Jr. High in Crawfordsville to her beloved alma mater, Attica Jr. Sr. High School, Sally was more than a, English teacher; she was a mentor, a guide, and a respected co-worker. Her love for English was evident to everyone she met. She had an eagle eye for a misplaced modifier and a red pen for anyone needing help with a paper. Her grandsons' English grades certainly benefited from her tutelage. She was a storyteller in her own right, sharing her wisdom and wit with students. In her retirement, Sally found immense joy in the simple pleasures: spending time with her dad, her husband, and her children, and doting on her grandsons, Maxwell, Samuel, and Abner. She was a lover of quiet moments, often found with her nose in a book, her hands in her flower garden, or her mind wrapped around a challenging puzzle. Her witty conversation, whether in person or over the phone, was a gift to her many friends and family. A true homebody at heart, she also enjoyed the quiet company of a tabby cat or two. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Reid and June Pitzer. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Neil Remaklus; her children, Abby Remaklus Kerkhove (Joseph) and Joseph Remaklus (Kristen Rasnic); grandchildren, Maxwell Kerkhove, Samuel Kerkhove, and Abner Remaklus. Sally is also survived by a multitude of people who lovingly considered her a friend. Though her story on earth has ended, the lessons she taught and the love she gave will continue to be told by all who knew her. Visitation hours are 3:00 – 6:00 PM Sunday, August 24, 2025 and an hour prior to her 11:00 AM funeral, Monday, August 25, 2025 all held at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Immediately following her services, Sally will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Attica, beside her parents. Her services will be led by Roy Jones, Brody Fox and Wally Hooker. Memorial contributions are preferred to Paws'n' claws Animal Shelter, Attica. Visit us online at www.familyandfriendsfh.com to sign the guestbook or share a memory.
