Darrell Hollingsworth Obituary

Darrell Keith Hollingsworth, 72, of Martinsville, Ohio passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. His wife, Janis Dickerson Hollingsworth, survives. They were married on August 26, 1978. He was born November 26, 1951 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of the late D. Glenn Hollingsworth and Wanda Krigbaum Hollingsworth. He was a a 1970 graduate of Clinton Massie High School and a 1975 graduate of Morehead State University.

Mr. Hollingsworth's career as a teacher and coach spanned 30 years; 10 years at Wilmington City Schools and 20 at Blanchester Local Schools. He retired from Blanchester in 2006 where he was an elementary school teacher and the varsity basketball coach.

Darrell was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, a 50-year member of the Clarksville Masonic Lodge, and a 50-year member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

In addition to his wife, Darrell is survived by his son, Phillip Ross Hollingsworth of Martinsville, Ohio; a brother, Harold G. (Sharon) Hollingsworth of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Mia Lynea Hollingsworth and Mileigh Devin Hollingsworth; a brother-in-law, Jeffrey A. (Karen) Dickerson; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, 840 Timber Glen Drive, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service with Rev. Dr. Bob Anderson officiating will begin at 1:00 PM, Tuesday. Burial will be in Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Darrell's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or the Presbyterian Church of Wilmington, 840 Timber Glen Drive, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.

Oh Janis, I am so sad to learn of Darrell´s passing. He meant the world to me. He helped me so much when I first started teaching. He was a funny guy. He tried to be so strict with his students as he smiled behind their backs. He was such a great teacher and coach...loved it, respected it and wanted to be the best at it, which he was. We didn´t cross paths much after retirement, but he remained special. Love and prayers to you and the kids.
