Barbara Omar Obituary

MANVILLE – Barbara Omar, 64, of Manville, died Wednesday at Landmark Medical Center. She was the loving wife of Maurice J. "Moe" Omar, Jr. They were married on November 30, 1973.

Born in Woonsocket she was daughter of Claire (Beauchesne) Roy and the late Maurice A. Roy. She was a resident of Manville for most of her life.

Barbara was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1970. She went on to earn her Associates Degree from CCRI.

Barbara was employed at Amica for several years before retiring. She previously worked at Strawberries, Fireside Motors, Oakland Grove Health Care Center and the Davies School for the Deaf. In her earlier years she was the cheerleading coach for St. James School. She also enjoyed a number of activities including biking, tennis, ice skating, dancing and going to the beach.

For the past 23 years Barbara valiantly battled Multiple Sclerosis. Rather than be defined by her illness she stared MS in the face, told the disease where it could go, and lived her life to the fullest. She continued enjoying many other things in life including reading, music and trips throughout the area.

Most of all, Barbara will be remembered by those she knew for her big personality and friendly, welcoming manner. Her most lasting legacy is her love for her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 43 years, and her mother, Barbara is survived by a son Alex M. Omar, and his wife, Jennifer, of Uxbridge; and a daughter, Megan G. Paris, and her husband, Richard, of Smithfield; four grandchildren, Samantha, Alexa, Brandon and Makenzie. She was the sister of Marc A. Roy and his wife, Lisa Jean, of Cranston; Joan Gilpatrick of Florida; and Gail Grise of Manville. She was the sister-in-law of the late Normand W. Grise. She is also survived by several nephews and their families.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, Division St. Manville. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours are Monday from 5-8 p.m. in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the MS Dream Center of RI P.O. Box 20185 Cranston, RI. 02920.
