Joan Patterson Obituary
July 10, 1930 - June 28, 2025
WOONSOCKET - Joan Marie Patterson (nee Cargill), 94, passed away peacefully in her Woonsocket home on Saturday June 28,
with family at her side.
Born July
10, 1930 in Melrose, MA, she was the daughter of Francis
and Eileen (Keefe) Cargill, the oldest of five. Joan attended St. Marys Catholic High School, and worked for several years at a Boston bank before marrying Hedley V. Patterson III in 1954.
They went on to raise two children in Woonsocket, where Hedley was the District Engineer for close to 40 years.
In addition to family, Joan was involved in community during those years - a devoted Sacred Heart Parish volunteer, an avid gardener, and a long-time member of the Woonsocket Garden Club.
Once Hedley retired, Joan and he pivoted to the business of buying/selling antiques and collectibles. They were active members of the Southeastern New England Antique Dealers Assn., and aside from her devotion to Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, antique dealing was a constant passion for the rest of her life.
The wake will be held at O'Neill Funeral Home in Cumberland on Monday the 7th of July from 5pm 7pm.
A mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Trinity Parish in Woonsocket the following morning at 10 am (Tuesday July 8.)

Dear Miriam, Emma and all sorrowing friends and relatives,
Although it’s been a ling while since we’ve met, I sorry to hear the news that Joan has gone on. I was delighted to get to know her on her visits to NYC over the years.
John, Julia and Dinah join me in wishing you peace - and may Joan’s memory always be a blessing.
