Jose M. Mateus

Jose M. Mateus, 88, passed away on Thursday evening surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Lina (Rosa) Mateus, they have been married for 61 years.
Born in Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Filomena Mateus. Jose came to this country in 1970 and settled in Pawtucket. He has resided in Attleboro for the past 37 years.
He was an avid vegetable gardner. Jose raised chicken, quails and rabbits.
He worked for Murdock Webbing Company for many years until his retirement in 1997.
Along with his wife he is survived by his two children; Lina M. Mateus and her husband Mark of Franklin, MA., and Michael J. Mateus of Attleboro. One brother Antonio Mateus of Brazil and one sister Maria Chaves of Pawtucket. Four grandchildren; Damian Mateus, Sean, Shannon and Ryan McKeown and several nieces and nephews.
Jose's Life Celebration will be held on Thursday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.
The family would like to thank the staff of Accent Care Hospice for assisting with the ability of Jose to be at home with his family and thank you also to the extended family and friends that have shown their support over the past 5 months, despite the regulations from the Covid-19 pandemic.
