Joseph Hyder Obituary
Mr. Hyder had been a radio and television broadcaster for over 60 years before retiring. Later, he worked for the Milford Town Crier in the editorial department.
He was born in 1928 in Newport, R.I., the son of the late George and Rose (Kabbas) Hyder and was a graduate of Rogers High School, Newport, class of 1946.
Joe had been a member on the National Board of Directors of the St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., was active in the local community for 30 years with the St. Jude Hospital, and also maintained a close relationship with Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude Hospital, and his family. He was one of the original investors in the New England Patriots.
He is survived by a son, Joseph G. Hyder, Jr. and his wife Ingrid Y. Van Opijnen of Milford; a daughter, Roseanne F. and her husband David Jessings of Northbridge; a brother, Thomas Hyder of Newport, RI; two sisters, Hazel Hyder of Portsmouth, R.I. and Dorothy Hyder Lane of Middletown, R.I.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Brandon McMorrow and David Joseph Jessings; two great-grandchildren, Brandon J. McMorrow and Natalie Jean Frances McMorrow, several nieces and nephews, and a former daughter-in-law Debra Ragosta of Plainville.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the BUMA-SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St., Milford.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 187 Hopedale St., Hopedale.
Burial will follow in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Rte. 16, Mendon St., Hopedale.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Joe was a great man, good friend, and a broadcasting legend. I am saddened by his passing, but grateful for the many projects that he requested my assistance on. I was proud to call him a colleague. My sincerest sympathies go out to Joe, Jr. and the rest of his family an friends.

I worked with Joe on the St. Jude Research Hospital fund raiser for a few years. He was a dedicated and caring person. He will be missed by so many. We will carry on with your great cause.

I remember Joe Hyder in my early teen years in Milford. He "always" had a kind relaxed word and when he spoke to you he made you feel comfortable and appreciated. A man of talent and character....he will be missed but not forgotten.

What a sad, sad day. I had the greatest respect for Mr. Hyder. He had a razor sharp intellect and did his homework on the issues. Furthermore, he made tremendous contributions to the Milford area. He will be sorely missed.
