Melissa A. McCann

BELLINGHAM - Melissa A. McCann, 41, of Bellingham, formerly of Woonsocket, died Tuesday August 14, 2018 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the wife of Dale F. McCann. Born in Newton, MA. She was a daughter of Garnet M. Ward and his companion Sandra J. "Sandy" Trufant of Bellingham and the late Dawn T. (Miller) Jordan and her husband James Jordan of Woonsocket. She was raised in Bellingham and was a graduate of Bellingham High School.
Melissa was a certified nursery school teacher and worked as a nanny for an agency in Natick. Her innate ability to care for and relate to children made Melissa a highly sought after nanny for a number of families in the greater Boston area. She also worked for Market Basket in Bellingham.
Melissa was a very well read person. She loved music and being at the beach. She was an avid collector of everything and anything related to the Wizard of Oz.
Melissa was a loving and passionate person; she was selfless in raising her brothers. She will be remembered as an outgoing and friendly soul who had a huge heart with room in it for everyone in her life.
Melissa gave the gift of life as an organ donor.
Melissa is survived by the center of her world her two children Ava Caroline McCann and Maxwell Garnet McCann. She was the sister of Andrew "CJ" Ward and his wife Jamie and Derek N. Ward all of Bellingham, Michelle Skye and her husband Tom of Belchertown and sister-in-law of Douglas McCann and Caitlyn of Bellingham. Daughter-in-law of Doreen and John Slaney of Bellingham. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Her funeral service will be Monday August 27, 2018 at 11:30 am in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association 1 State St. Suite 200 Providence, RI. 02908.
