Michael Brady Obituary

Michael J. Brady

KEY WEST, FL - MICHAEL JUDE (Mike) BRADY passed away peacefully on May 14th at the Key West Hospital after suffering with a debilitating illness for the past seven months.

Mike was born in Pawtucket in 1941 and was 82 years old. He was the brother of the late Claire Brady White, and he is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, brothers Jack Brady in Lake Suzy, FL and Patrick Brady in Attleboro, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews in Key West and in other parts of the country.

After graduating from Tolman High School he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with honor in Germany during the height of the Cold War before returning home to a career with the Pawtucket Fire Department. Mike earned a Bachelors Degree in Fire Science from Providence College before retiring as a lieutenant.

After leaving the fire department, Mike became an assistant to the safety director at the University of Rhode Island, once again employing his skills to ensure the safety of others.

He then moved to Twin Mountain, NH, where he and his wife Betty owned and operated a motel and antique shop for many years. Mike was an avid skier.

When he and Betty finally had enough of the cold weather, they moved to Key West and became solid citizens of the Conch Republic.

He will be missed by the large circle of friends he made throughout the country. A memorial service will be held for Mike in Key West at sometime in the near future, and a similar service will be held at the Firefighters' Memorial Monument at Pawtucket City Hall on Sunday, June 9th, at 10am.

It´s with a heavy heart that I write this message in my friend Mikes memory area. Mike is a great man and helped save my life.

In the 1990´s I was in a bad way- and I reached out into the universe and Mike reached back. We met, became friends- and ... one day at a time... I learned there was freedom. Mike was the definition of a power of example for so many. Certainly for me.

I am writing this on a trip back from NH. It´s when Mike and would talk. I now understand that the conversation no longer requires a cell phone. He is with us all- having made an indelible impression that for me- was life saving.

Mike, from the very bottom of my humble heart- thank you.

Betty, Jack, and family- I´m sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences.

I enjoyed skiing with Mike and my Dad (Bob Foss) at Cannon Mountain as a member of the Attleboro Ski Club. May his memory be a blessing.

I met Mike back in 1980 during a horrible housefire where my daughter Alyssa was brought out of the house black with suit and not breathing. Mike grabbed her from me got in another car with another firefighter called Dick DeSantis, I believe and on the way to the hospital, they brought her back to life. A few days later, he showed up at the hospital with a stuffed animal for her. After that it was periodic visits to see how she was doing as she grow older. He never forgot her birthday ever he went to a graduation and cried he was such a wonderful man , she always called him uncle Mike and so did her son Thomas. Alyssa lost her battle with cancer in 2023 and now I guess she´ll have her uncle Mike with her Mike. I´m know you will be missed by so many people you always be my heart Mike I love you.
