Ruth M. Briggs

1926 - 2021

BELLINGHAM - Ruth Marion (Martin) Briggs, age 94, of Bellingham, MA passed into eternal life on February 11, 2021 at Countryside Nursing, Milford, MA.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Blanche Mae (Stebbins) Martin. Born in Ayer, Massachusetts on November 22, 1926, she was educated in Littleton and Ayer Massachusetts schools. After receiving her GED, she earned her Associates Degree in Applied Science from Holliston Jr. Col. in 1979. She worked as an executive secretary for Avery Denison until her retirement.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed discussing history, politics, and gardening. Ruth was an amazing gardener, and in her retirement, spent more than 25 years tending to her beautiful and fragrant gardens. Her greatest joy was time shared with her 13 grandchildren and great grandchildren and felt very blessed to have such a close-knit family.

She was a devoted caretaker for 45 years for her brain injured son, Martin. She never lost faith that his injuries would diminish over time. She is survived by her daughter, Paula Colleton and her husband Larry, of Bellingham, MA, her sons, Daniel J. Briggs, of Bellingham, MA, Martin C. Briggs of Franklin, MA and David W. Briggs and his wife Theresa of Blackstone, MA. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Rathbun and sister-in-law, Barbara Martin, her beloved Grandchildren, Caroline Lyman, Jason Stearns, Joshua, Kara, Ashley and Adam Briggs, and Great-grandchildren, William Lyman, Isabella and Delaney Stearns, Halle Yucupicio, Aarilyn Thibodeau, Riley and Olivia Briggs. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Dorothy Gauvin, Eleanor Rathbun, Reginald, Harrold, William, Carroll, and George Martin.
