Daniel Brown Obituary

Daniel J. Brown, affectionately known as "Dan the Man" and "The Rock Star," passed away on June 23, 2025, at the age of 82, with his beloved wife by his side. Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Alias and Margaret Brown, Dan graduated from Langley High School and went on to live a life full of energy, passion, and purpose. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963 and later became a successful entrepreneur, owning several kitchen cabinet businesses before joining Pella Windows and Doors, where he worked as a salesman until his retirement in 2014. Dan was deeply involved in his community. He served as Past President of both the Alpine Kiwanis and the Phantom Regiment Board of Directors-roles he took on with dedication and heart. A man of a quiet presence and a witty personality, Dan believed in living life to the fullest. He had a passion for travel and an openness to wherever life took him. Later in life, Dan discovered an unexpected passion: figure skating. At age 48, Dan took up figure skating through Learn to Skate classes at the Rockford Park District. This late-blooming interest blossomed into a competitive pursuit, and he skated competitively well into his 80s. Dan loved entertaining crowds with his unique and joyful showcase performances, often saying, "I skate for the audience, not the judges." His motto: "I stay healthy so I can skate. I skate so I can stay healthy." Dan met the love of his life, Judy Box-Brown, on the Sinnissippi bike path. Their love story led to a memorable wedding-on the ice at Riverview Ice House in Rockford. Together, they built a life full of adventure, laughter, and mutual support. Outside of skating, Dan found joy in building his elaborate model train layout and once fulfilled a lifelong dream by driving a steam locomotive for a day. A regular at Wendy's, he cherished the simple pleasures of a good meal and the warm friendships he formed there with his "Wendy's family." Dan's kind heart, generous spirit, and signature sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to "rock on" in the memories of all who loved him. He is survived by his wife, Judy Box-Brown; his children, Sandra Lundy, Daniel (Christine) Brown, and Shelly (Rob) Rollins; grandchildren, Joshua (Linnea), Matthew, Vincent, Nicholas, and Emmett; great-grandchildren, Dominic and Owen; sister, Marge Simile; and many nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Alias and Margaret Brown; brother, John Brown; and great-granddaughter, Scarlet Lundy. Celebration of Life will be from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the Riverview Ice House, 324 N. Madison St., Rockford, IL 61107. Lunch will be provided. Come to reminisce, share a memory, and celebrate Dan's remarkable life. There will be time for skating, so bring your skates if you'd like-it's a true celebration, just the way Dan would have wanted.
