Edward Myers Obituary

Edward H. Myers, "Ed" "Butch" "Mac" "Fast Eddie", 82, of Cherry Valley Township in Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2025 surrounded by family after a difficult battle with cancer. Born on June 24, 1943, the son of Edward W. and Dorothy (Wright) Myers. He attended Gunsolas Grade School, Monroe Center Jr. High and graduated from Rockford East High School class of1961. Ed married Beverly Armstrong on June 29, 1963 in Freeport IL. They were married 62 years. They met at Skeets Drive-In on 11th, got into an argument over Bev throwing half a cheeseburger away and argued on and off ever since. In high school he worked as an usher at Midway Theater in Rockford. Ed then worked at Sundstrand and at Chrysler as a maintenance man, and an electrician at Rockford Drop Forge and UC Industries. He became an entrepreneur of Leonardo's Restaurant from 1981-1991. In 1986 he bought, owned, and operated Superior Metal Finishing and later Northern Star Plating until retiring in 2002 at 59 years old. As a child he was involved in 4-H and Boy Scouts, and as a teenager he had his horse "Shorty." Ed took up playing guitar which led him to playing in a few bands, including the Daze'n'Knights in the 1960's, traveling with the "Dick Clark Caravan of Stars," playing with and backing up many big acts such as BJ Thomas, Gene Pitney, Dick & Dee Dee, Bobby Goldsboro just to name a few. He also studied karate for some years. He was the best father and papa, as he enjoyed family time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the backyard pool and cottage at Castle Rock Lake in Wisconsin. Ed and Bev spent a great deal of time traveling with friends and family for many years. He took fishing trips to Canada and Minnesota with his sons-in-law and friends. He loved to read and self taught himself how to fix and build just about anything, including muzzleloaders and restoring cars, especially classic cars. Survived by his wife, Beverly (Armstrong) Myers; children, Stacy Bunch (Danny) and Jennifer McKinney (Tom Young); grandchildren, Lindsey Bunch (Mike Powless), Jamie McVay, Kaitlin Wentland (Harry), Connor McKinney and Bret Bunch; great-grandchildren, Adriana Sawtelle, Bobby McVay, Charlie Wentland, Josie Wentland and Stanley (Mac) Wentland; sister, Donna Beck (Ron); brother, John Myers (Nancy); and many in-laws; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Special thanks to the outstanding nurses and staff at Mercy Cancer Center and the entire wonderful staff at Mo Cara Hospice. You all made this difficult situation a little brighter. Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 12, 2025 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory-Mulford Chapel, 4311 N.
