Russell Snider Obituary
Mr. Russell R. Snider age 82 of Robinson, IL passed from this earthly life on Saturday August 9th, 2025 at 5:10 am in the peace and comfort of his home in Robinson, IL.
Russell was born in Oblong, IL to Ralph T. and Blanche (Shook) Snider, attended Oblong schools and graduated Oblong High School in the Class of 1961. Three years after graduation, he married Ms. Nancy D. Burner on July 26, 1964, and together they had a son, Gregory Allan Snider on June 11, 1970. Their lives were forever changed when Greg died December 25, 2013. His passing left a hole in their hearts that was never to be filled.
Russell was all about fixing "stuff" anything broken was fixable in Russell's mind. He began his working at the Ettlebrick Shoe Factory in Robinson where he worked for seven years. He then went to work for the Western Auto Store in Robinson where he worked in sales and in the lawn mower maintenance and auto shop. Following that, he became a Fire Fighter with the Robinson Fire Department for 20 years. Russell also worked as a Sears repair man for 20 years, then became a Robinson City Councilman/Alderman for 24 years and while doing that, he owned and operated a small engine lawnmower repair shop at his home for many years.
Russell knew a lot of people and had a large group of friends, some of whom visited the Snider Store North of Oblong to play a game of "42" and discuss the weather. He worked on the family farm his whole life and very much enjoyed helping friends and family fix things.
Russell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Snider and by their two granddaughters Katlin Snider and Harlei (Jon) Payne and their great granddaughters Madi Payne and Haleigh Rios, as well as a Daughter-in-law, Rachel Snider. Other survivors include his sister Virginia (Charles) Ammons, and sister-in-law Carolyn Snider; Nephews Jason (Courtney Mendenhall) Snider, Jeremy (Tiffany) Snider, Wyatt Snider, Chance Goodwin, Jasper Goodwin; Nieces, Tammy Thorne, Sandra (Bob) Gilmore, Nikki Ammons, Alayna Snider and Cassy (Scott) Goodwin.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ralph and Blanche Snider, son Gregory Allan Snider, brother Jack W. Snider, and grandson Stephen C. Postlewait.
Visitation for family and close friends will be held Tuesday August 12, 2025, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, when funeral services will be held with Bro. Rick Cat officiating at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson. Burial will follow funeral services in the White Oak Cemetery, rural Oblong, IL. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Russell's memory to the Richland Carle Hospice, 501 S West St., Olney, IL 62450 or to the "Toys for Tots" program at the Robinson Fire Department, 400 S. Jackson St., Robinson, IL 62454. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
