Gary Gibson Obituary


GARY LEE GIBSON "HIPPI," 75 of Nitro went Home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2025, from complications of Alzheimer's at the Hubbard Hospice House of Charleston.
Gary was a 1968 graduate of Nitro High School. He retired from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 625 of Charleston with 56 years experience as a pipefitter and welder. Gary was an avid golfer and a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and rode with Road Riders for Jesus "RRJ."
Gary was preceded in death by his father Ray Gibson of Poca, stepfather and mother Casey and Opal Erlewine of Nitro, brother Teddie Gibson. Gary is survived by his son Gary Gibson II of St. Albans, daughter Lisa Fairbanks of Clemmons, NC, brother Eddie Gibson of Cincinnati, Ohio, brother Duane (Dana) Erlewine of St. Albans. Gary had 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The family wants to give a special Thank You to Danny Rose, who was Gary's best friend for life, for all his care and compassion.
A Celebration of Gary's life will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Cooke Funeral Home, Nitro, WV. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. You may send condolences to the family at www.cookefuneralhome.com.
