John Mullin Obituary

In loving memory of JOHN "JACK" MULLIN, of Mason, OH, formerly of Princeton, WV, peacefully departed this world at the age of 98 on March 1, 2024.
Jack, born to John S. Mullin and Harriet Mullin on January 9, 1926, in Pocahontas, Virginia, lived a life of dedication and love. He attended Pocahontas High School and bravely joined the Air Force during WWII. As a radio operator, he provided essential communications to aircraft during both WWII and the Korean War. After graduating with a degree in Architectural Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1950, he dedicated his skills to Union Carbide in South Charleston, WV, until his retirement in 1989.
Jack was known for his kindness and empathy; he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Jack shared a remarkable 55-year union with his wife, Verda until her passing in 2008.
A devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle, Jack cherished moments spent with his family and never failed to send a birthday card to those he loved. Beyond his passion for family, Jack found pleasure in fishing, gardening, scouting for a good deal and cheering for WVU football and basketball. His green thumb was evident in his flourishing tomato garden and half-century-old Christmas cacti, sources of great pride. His love for fishing brought him joy, tranquility, and some famous fish stories.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen Reed, and brothers, Bill and Frank Mullin.
He is survived by his children, Ted (Barbara) of Atlanta, GA, and Cindy Holley of Mason, OH, along with three grandchildren; Lisa (Matt) Pierson, John (Rhyla) Holley, and Katie Holley (Riley Houston) and great grandchildren Virginia, Mary Matt, and Ford Pierson. His nieces and nephews also continue his legacy. Jack's love, kindness, and unwavering dedication will forever endure in the hearts of those privileged to know him. May he find eternal peace, secure in the knowledge that he enriched the lives of all who knew him.
The family would like to thank hospice of Southwest Ohio and the staff at Heritage Springs for their care and compassion for Jack and his family during his final days.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton, WV, April 6, 2024 at 12 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations be made to the Shepard Center in Atlanta, GA.

So sorry to hear of Uncle Jack's passing. I always enjoyed visiting him and Aunt Verda and when they would come to Roanoke to visit us. Love and prayers

Old black and white photos of my grandfather John Stewart Mullin always have reminded me of the Irish writer James Joyce. Now, in this photo of my uncle Jack I see some of the same Joycean resemblance. In the glasses, yes. In the glance, yes. But Jack's countenance is so much more serene and happy than that of Joyce. As it should be. I will always remember him as such a quintessentially positive man.
