Violet Aldridge Obituary
Violet Texie (Gillespie) Aldridge blessed with 102 years of life, of Lewisburg, formerly of Hilton Village, peacefully went home to be with her heavenly father as her daughters slept beside her at 3:15 AM on August, 20, 2025 at her residence. Born on July 10, 1923, to the late Homer and Norah Texa Gillespie of Crag, West Virginia.
At separate stages of her life, she was an active member of Little Sewell, Hilton Village, Lookout and Russellville Baptist Churches. While in Lewisburg, she attended Graystone Baptist Church.
Violet was an avid gardener, loved mowing grass, cleaning, and cooking for her family. In fact, she was actively doing all of her "chores" until she broke her hip at age 97. Above all, she loved her family and the lord. Her goals were for her family and friends to know and follow Christ. Violets charge was for people to take care of other people when they needed it.
Violet and Lawrence were married for 63 years after meeting at the Little Sewell Baptist Church in Crag, West Virginia. They were blessed with four cherished children, Linda Aldridge-Ellison of Charleston, Owen Aldridge (Sandy) of Asbury, Charles Aldridge of Corliss and Debbie Aldridge of Lewisburg; much loved grandchildren Steve Ellison (Sherry), Amanda Aldridge (Adam Walton), Erica Aldridge, and Kyle Aldridge; special great-grandchildren Braxton Ewing and Sierra Mae Ellison, Katelyn and Memphis Butler, and Gabriel Bickford.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Ewing Aldridge, two grandchildren Krista Butler and Chad Aldridge, siblings Zelda Turner, Pansy Tincher, Hobert Gillespie, Elsie Pillow, Mescal "Fern" Osborne, Clifford Gillespie, Robert Gillespie, Donald Gillespie and Letha Gillespie.
In addition to her children and their family, she is survived by two sisters, Leonora Highlander of Rainelle/Alderson and Lillian Kincaid of Ohio.
She will missed by many precious nieces and nephews and a host of friends, neighbors and church families. There are many who shall cherish the memories of this sweet, helpful loving lady.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Smathers Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, West Virginia with interment to follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville. The family will receive friends and family one hour before the service.
A special thank you to Dr. Pam Butcher, Home Care Plus Staff and the in-Home Hospice staff for their love and care.
Smathers Funeral Chapel is honored to care for Violet and her family during their great time of need.
