Stewart Maples

Stewart Mathews Maples, 86, of East Bend, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 28, 2021 at his home. Mr. Maples was born in Port Chester, New York on July 25, 1934 to James C. and Eleanor Maples. He was a veteran of the US Army. He served for 27 years for the town of East Bend having served as mayor and town commissioner. He was a member of East Bend United Methodist Church where he had a large group of church family and friends. Mr. Maples was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife Letha Marie McCoy Maples. Surviving are Katheryn Kennedy, wife of his step-son, Jesse Dean Kennedy; grandchildren Jessica Windfelder, Nathanial Kennedy, Michelle Fortner, James Fortner, and Brian Fortner; great-grandchildren Shealee Windfelder, Caleb Kennedy, Skyler Kennedy, Paige Griffin, Hope Griffin. And Kaelin Thompson; sister Annie Cobb; and many other family members. His funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 31, at 1 p.m.at Gentry Funeral Chapel in East Bend with Rev. David Blankenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the US Army Memorial Honor Guard. Public viewing will be on Tuesday, March 30, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 31, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Gentry Family Funeral Service in East Bend is serving the Stapes family.
