My wife and I met Dick and his lovely wife Karen at the York Revolution Ballpark and established a bond and friendship with them. Dick was a great man, husband and father always having a good time at the games.
He will be sadly missed. He's with GOD now and we will see him again someday..

Karen and family,
We were shocked to hear of Dick's passing when I spoke to my brother this week. Please know that if we had been in PA we would have been there.
As you know, we have known the Evans family, did house and child sitting since 1960 when I became Dr. Evans' executive secretary at the hospital.
Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was shocked when my parents told me this evening about Dick's sudden death. We grew up together in the Brockie neighborhood, running back and forth between each other's homes, waxing his dad's plane one long weekend, and bowling on the same team together every Saturday morning in the Bowlerama junior league. No one ever lofted the ball further down the lane and with more impact than Dick! I remember Dick very fondly from a different time, when we both had our social awkwardnesses and before any of us had developed any sense of civic duty. As a result, it's almost scary for me to think about Dick as a 20-year member of the Suburban school board. Even as a teen-ager, Dick was a unique guy with an independent spirit... peer pressure seemed never to limit his approach to fun nor to restrain him from saying what was on his mind. He was a good friend for many years. Decades ago, when we went our own ways in adulthood, we lost contact with each other, but I share the loss with the rest of you and send my condolences to his wife and children.

Dick was a man of excellent character. His compassion for others was evident in his commitment to education and his family. He will be truly missed by all.

He always took great interest in all his friends and made us feel so special. I will miss him so much. As a school board member, his agenda was pure...about the kids and the community... He was passionate about his beliefs but he also listened and considered other ideas. But our greatest loss is his big wit and great smile. We will really miss that...

Although i only met Dick one time he was a very kind person. He has done so much good in his life that you should be very proud of him. As time passes things will get easier and always remember you have friends to rely on in your time of need.

My deepest condolences to the entire Evans family. I always enjoyed conversing with Mr. Evans because he brought a smile to my face and had great wisdom. Growing up with two older brothers in the band and myself a member as well, Mr. Evans was a staple for me at York Suburban. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with you all.

Although only a High School classmate, Dick's life is a beacon to all. Take his life and continue to live through those joys and sorrows. The way is narrow says the Bible. The narrow way is how we honor those who have passed. Continue what we know would bring glory and joy. And do it every day.

One of the great joys in my life was to become friends with Dick, first via our work together in the McCain campaign and then continued in other ways such as our monthly beef-o-rama (as we called it) at Coombs.

It has been many years, and many miles from our childhood adventures at Chateaugay Lake in the Adirondacks, but nothing dims the memory of a person who reveled in life, played hard, felt deeply, and was a partner in the special experience that was Chateaugay. Dick was always a little larger than life, and the world is now a little smaller for his untimely passing. Our deepest condolences to Karen, Jamie, Annie, and Abby on your loss.

Much sadness is felt for no longer being able to talk with Dick. It really is an empty feeling as he was such a thinker, a man with ideas who appreciated feedback.
