C. Hawkey Obituary

Charles Robert Hawkey was born February 4, 1964 to Emil Richard Hawkey, Jr. and the late Rosemary Hawkey in Glendora, California. He and his siblings, Eric Hawkey and Carolyn Hoer grew up in Corning, California. Robert attended Brigham Young University and served a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santiago, Chile. He served his church in many other capacities, including as Bishop in Yuma for seven years. He always held a special place in his heart for the youth of the church.

Robert is survived by his wife, Christina Hawkey; their three children, Breanna, Kyle and Bryce; and future son-in-law Collin Sumpter. The family watched their husband and father valiantly fight a twenty-one year battle with cancer, and was with him at the time of his peaceful passing on Thursday, June 12, 2014. Robert enjoyed many things, including traveling and scuba diving, but his greatest passions were his faith and his family. Robert spent every moment that he could making memories with his wife and children.

Robert's Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2895 S. 8th Avenue, Yuma, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Foothills Bank, 2285 S. 4th Ave, Yuma; account 0242602020. Donations can also be made online at http://www.gofundme.com/aayit0.

Christina and Family, You are in my thoughts and prayers. I loved Robert. He taught me so much and I really did enjoy serving as Relief Society President under his guidance. I admired his love and compassion for all. I know that you will all be fine, but missing him will be hard. The Lord will bless you and just know you are loved much. Joan Sohm Hayward

Dear Christina, Breanna, Kyle & Bryce,
We are so sorry for your loss. Those years in Yuma were some of our families happiest memories because of the wonderful friends we found in each of you. Robert will always be remembered for his kindness, sensitivity to the Spirit and to the needs of others. I learned what true faith meant from Robert as he lived it and exemplified it in all he did. We miss each of you and want you to know how much we love you. You are in our hearts and in our prayers. Love, Scott, Alicia, Mailee, London Rick & Alyssa Whiting
