Popeye. I miss you every day. What I wouldn't do just to hug you again. I miss your voice calling me "cowgirl" and "punkin". I'll never forget how "wonderful" my life was with you in it. I love you.

Well my cousin you are missed. There is a sadness in my heart. I know you are up with your family and in a better place but the sorrow is still here with me.

I rarely spend much time looking at information about Swift Boats and was very sad when I discovered that Patrick had passed.
I went through Swift Boat school with Patrick and served with him in Vietnam for a number of months. We were never on the same boat but we patrolled together on many occasions. We always managed to hook up between patrols and have a few laughs.
We always considered Patrick lucky and use to joke that when the bullets were flying it was wise to get next to him because it was the safest place to be.
My memory has faded over the years so my places may be inaccurate but these stories may be familiar to those who knew him.
On one occasion we were patrolling out of little port village called Ha Tien and were ambushed along the Vinh Te Canal. We didn't take a lot of hits on our boat but Patrick's boat took a few. Many hit the gun tub where Patrick was located but the 50 Cal super-shooters inside the gun tub kept him safe. Someone commented he was really lucky and that started the legend. On another patrol out of Ha Tien, again on the Vinh Te Canal we were off the boats looking for a weapons cache and Patrick kicked the top off an anti-personnel mine. It should have gone off but didn't. Turns out it had been exposed too long to the moist sea air and had corroded. Still it added to his legend.
I use to have many pictures but over the years they've been misplaced. I still have one and it's not his best but definitely gives you the flavor of him in country in 1969.
I don't have a scanner but will provide my email address and if you provide an address I will mail the photo to you.
