Merrill S. Hughes, 65, of Anchorage, Alaska, formerly of Juneau, Alaska, and Oregon, a U.S. Army veteran, and the Helicopter Association of America’s 1974 Mechanic of the Year, died at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital on Thursday, September 14, 2000, after being medivaced from a moose hunting camp along the Rex Trail. Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2 p.m., at Anchorage Lutheran Church, 1420 N Street, Anchorage. Additional services are scheduled for Monday, October 2, 2 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, Juneau, and on Saturday, September 7, 2 p.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran, Albany, Oregon. Memorial donations may be made to Anchor Lutheran School, 8100 Arctic Boulevard, Anchorage, AK 99518. Arrangements entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home, Fairbanks, Alaska.
