I have many wonderful memories of Carl in and around the ORs at Crawford Long. Carl hired me out of anesthesia residency for my first job. He was fun, funny and a calming presence in the OR.
A wonderful mentor and a better person. RIP

Dear Jaye and Family,
It is with a heavy heart, I send you this message about my long-time friend, co-worker, colleague and mentor. Carl offered me my first job outside Emory and was way ahead of his time in treating me, the only female in the group, as an equal to all other members of our group. He respected me for my abilities and let me know, in many ways, that I was a valued member of the team. That was a priceless gift to me.
You must miss him deeply. You two had a loving, respectful unbreakable bond. You have lost a part of yourself which will take time to heal. Tony and I are fortunate to have known you and Carl and your family. Knowing how much others loved and respected Carl, I hope will help you as you go through your grieving process.
