Martha Jean Jensen

Martha Jean "Jean" Jensen passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026.

Born on August 19, 1935, in Atlanta, she was the daughter of John and Ollie Dean Milewski and was raised in Cleveland. Some of her fondest memories of childhood were summers spent in Atlanta with her grandmother, Cassie Mae "Garma" Dismer, times she recalled with special affection throughout her life. She graduated from Emory University in 1957 as a member of one of the first classes of female graduating students. During her time there, she was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, where she formed many meaningful friendships.

Jean went on to earn her master's degree in Latin Studies from Northwestern University. She briefly taught high school Latin in Evanston, Illinois and Fredonia, New York before dedicating herself more fully to her family.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Paul Milewski. She is survived by her son, Michael Jensen; her daughter, Patricia Connolly and her son-in-law, Kevin; her grandchildren, Alyssa (John) Downey, Colleen (Brian) Duff, JP (Rachel) Connolly, and Erin (Ellie) Connolly; and her great-grandchildren, Jack and Charlotte Downey.

Jean was an avid bridge player and devoted reader. She took great pride in her personal library and found joy in lending books, engaging in thoughtful conversation, and spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her keen intellect, her dry wit, and the steady devotion she showed to those she loved.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, RI, followed by a Celebration of Life at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Jean's memory to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA, 22116-7023 would be appreciated.
