Lance Cpl. Anthony Melia, United States Marine Corps, was killed in combat in Iraq on Jan. 27, 2007, at the age of 20. Anthony died much as he lived, with passion, bravery, selflessness and unspeakable valor.
Anthony was born Aug. 29, 1986, in Sacramento, Calif. After moving to Ventura County, Anthony attended Thousand Oaks High School, where his traits of passion, valor and selflessness were developed on the football field. Anthony starred for the Lancers and made many of the friends he held so close to his heart while wearing green and white. Anthony played the game fearlessly and proudly, battling back from injuries to continue playing the game he loved with those he loved.
After graduation, Anthony's calling took him to the United States Marine Corps, where again those traits were immediately recognized, resulting in his rapid rise to team leader.
Anthony is survived by his parents, Mike and Vicki; sister, Nicole; brother, Daniel; nephew, Nicholas; and grandparents Chuck, Joanne and June; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved Anthony deeply.
Your prayers are requested for all who knew Anthony and must now show the traits he lived with every day to moved forward without him.
Services for Anthony will be held at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary, phone, 818-889-0902; and Calvary Church in Westlake Village, phone, 818-991-8040. The dates for these services are pending. Both locations will have final information on dates and times.
A trust fund has been established in Anthony's name at Santa Barbara Bank and Trust. Anyone interested should contact Adriana Sanchez, Santa Barbara Bank and Trust, 4646 Adolfo Road, Camarillo, CA 93012; phone 805-384-5321.

Anthony, it is hard to realize that 5 years have passed since you gave your life for the freedom of others.
You are a HERO in the very essence of the word.
I know the hole in your parents, siblings, relatives and friends lives will never be filled. It is something that cannot ever be.
I believe that this hole is a way of always reminding us of what a great person you were.

To all that honor Anthony,
Our family cannot even begin to express the feelings we have, for all of you, that have continued to remember our son Anthony! There is not a day that goes by that the empty hole in our hearts aches for him. Knowing that his name is still carried among the voices of many helps in some way to think he is still with us!
We will always keep trying to honor his name for as long as we are alive. This is the second year that our family has given the Anthony Melia scholarship to a Thousand Oaks High School graduate. We believe that doing this would not only make our son proud but, to remind the future young people of the sacrifices that have been made for us! Thank you so much!

Flowers are soldiers
always in the spotlight
whose beauty is always shown at every given time
and never scared to be looked at.
Flowers are soldiers
powerful as can be
strong through winds, rains, and battles
their achievements never let anyone down.
Flowers are soldiers

ready to show there life to everyone

In time of War,
they heeded the call
They took up arms
"Freedom For All"
They went to serve
in a far away land
In battles they fought,
they took a stand
In honor of Country,
their duty they performed
For those who died, our Country sadly mourned.
There were many who fell and gave their lives
Leaving behind children, mothers, fathers and wives
They fought the fight to "Let Freedom Ring"
In honor of that, their praises we sing
To those who died, we salute you all
And give our thanks for heeding the call...
Thank you Anthony... Take Care...Semper Fi!

Driving down Moorpark Road the other day, my wife and I saw the Yellow ribbons and Flags. Our first thought was back to Anthony and the Hero he is!
It is really hard to believe that a year has passed. There is not a day that goes by that Anthony does not enter into our thoughts. Just recently my son had to fill out the mandatory draft form and I could not help but sit and sigh and think of Anthony.
May god continue to bless the Melia family and may Anthony always be your guardian angel.

I only knew Anthony for a short period of time. Our junior year at TO, he was in ASL, and I was partnerd up with him to help with his signing. He always had a story to tell me, he always had a smile on his face. Everyday except for one...he came in with a folded piece of paper in his hands. He sat down with heavy sigh and said "I just want to be here" while pointing at the paper. I asked what it was, and he opened it to reveal a soilders graveyard, a nameless one at that. I asked why he wanted to be there, quite shocked actually. And he said it wasnt any death wish or anything like that but he just wanted to do something amazing, but not really have his name connected to it. I have always respected Anthony, but from that point...he was golden. I have a year book entry from him, and the day I found out he had passed away, I must have read it over a thousand times. Anthony Melia was a person who you didnt really have to know, to love. But if you did know him, even for a short time...the impression he left was deep and real.
We shall miss you Anthony, so much.
You were and always will be the light in so many lives.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
