CPL McKiski,
I never knew who you were. I do know that you were my Marine. I was there the night of the accident that claimed your life. I was the Corpsman who tried to save your life and send you home to your family. I failed my mission and for that I am sorry. I think of you often and wish that I could have known you. It has been five years, but sometimes it feels like yesterday. I was in that water with you. My apologies to your family.
May you guard the streets of Heaven with pride!!
God Bless your family,
Your Doc,
HM1(FMF) T.J. Charles, ret.

Cpl. Adam T. McKiski, Here we are another Memorial Day. A day to remember and give thanks for you and those like you who have signed on the dotted line to risk everything to serve our country.
Thank you can not begin to show our heart felt gratitude for your service, yet it is all we have.

I can only offer what I have which is my word. Me and mine will Never Forget you, your name and and the gift you gave us.

In MOS School Adam was the Marine I went to when I had a problem. It never failed. He was some one who as a fellow 2131 I looked up to. I remember seeing him in the fleet for the first time, and it was in Fallujah. I was with Clb-8 and he was with Clb-1. He was our replacement for duty. I was so excited to see my old friend. He pulled me aside one day and asked for my advice on things and how it was going over there. I told him every thing has been okay. it wasn't too bad. we had mortars and IEDs the usual. I told him and the rest of the 2131's everything will be just fine. I will forever regret those words. Then August of 08 came and Me and a mutual friend of Adam's, A Derek Lund and I were driving down to a friends house when we got the word.... I am still trying to pull it together I have lost more people in my 24 years of life who were close family or friends than years I lived yet to this day that one hurts the most. I wish you all well and I pray for Adam often. He was a great Marine, but an even greater human being. I am truly blessed to have been able to call him my friend. Words may never convey my sorrow to you all. I hope you can forgive me for not writing sooner.
Sincerely Cpl Ryker J. Pawloski

Today, August 21, 2010, I walked a mile for Adam. The event was called "Run for the fallen" for all of Illinois, and I was privileged to get his name. A flag was planted in the turf around the track and a bell rung to acknowledge Adam's service to our country. He is not forgotten and tho I have never met Adam, I am proud to know him. Thank you Adam. God bless you all, his family and friends.

Dear Mary, Jamie, Hal, Emily,
I was one of the PGR Ride Captains for Adams mission. I still have Adam and your family in my heart, and you will remain there for as long as I live.
The time I spent with you gave me a very good idea as to what kind of a man Adam was, other than the obvious, with him serving our country.
It has been over a year, but I still remember the concern you all showed for our people as we stood the flag line, offering food, water, shade and concern for our comfort at a time when we were there to assist in comforting you and honoring Adam.
With this in mind I am confident enough to say, Adam was a man that we can all be proud of, putting others first, and in front of his own needs.
I do hope that your family has found some peace in the time since. "I Will Never Forget" what Adam and the many others have paid for our security here at home.
I will never take for granted the price paid by Adam and those that went before, and those that will come after him. I will live my life in such a way as to Honor their sacrifice to our country.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Adam, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other sailors and soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Adam and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home were able to sleep without fear and know that we are safe because you and your fellow soliders stood watch. To the McKiski family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Adam and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Please accept my heart felt condolences and my prayer that god help you cope with this tragic loss and may the memories of your HERO carry you through each day. From one Gold Star family to another!

Dear family of Cpl. Adam T. McKiski,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

To the family and parents of Adam I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. Our daughter and her husband had worked with Adam since he got to the fleet, and we had the honor of getting to know "Ski" through her stories. They have always said that "Ski" was the best friend you could ask for, and are weeping with you at the loss of this Proud Marine. Please know that all Marine families are grieving for your Fallen Angel. Semper Fi

Dear Jamie,
As a friend of Ms. Ray's, I heard the bad news last weekend. Certainly Adam's parents, relatives and friends are suffering, our Country has lost an awesome young man, but mostly, I am sorry for the upset of dreams and hopes you and Adam were building together. I pray for your memories to be enduring and easy to share, that your grief is not brushed aside in name of getting on with life.
Peace,
Tom

To the McKiski Family:
There are no words to express what we feel for your loss. The pain is so great, the questions – so many. We lost our beloved son, Blake, this past May in Iraq. We know what you’re feeling, and all we can say is trust in God. Ask for the strength that you need, and He will grant you the strength. Our prayer for you is that with the beautiful memories Adam blessed you with; you will keep his memory alive in your hearts. Feel free to contact us at any time, if you need someone nearby who has suffered your same loss.

Greater love hath no man than he lay down his life for his friend. Christ did this for our soul, your loved one did it for our freedom. Thank you for your sacrifice and my prayers are with all of you.
