This is a quote from my father back in 88 or 89 "Chuck is not only a damn good race car driver he is the most unselfish man I think I've ever met". I don't know what else to say, except I'll miss you.

Luckily I ran in to Chuck and some of his friends last week in Herrin on the street. I hadn't seen him in many years but he was as wonderful then as he always was. Freeman Spur has lost their last true legend in his own time. Kenny McNeal and now Chuck. The party is truly over in Freeman Spur now! Awe, but for the memories we all share, Chuck you will never be forgotten, Godspeed Chuck, rest in peace!

My family will greatly miss Chuck. I knew him as a racer and a friend for years. I have many good memories of him as I was growing up watching him run "The Amati Groove". He will be deeply missed and his family well thought of in our hearts.

I enjoyed watching Chuck race at many tracks, but I have especially fond memories of visiting with him at Haubstadt during intermission back when the pits were in the infield. He is a major reason that I became a race fan.
RIP, Chuck

It was a pleasure to watch Chuck race.He made the races very exciting and made a person sit on the edge of their seat wondering what he was going to do to get to the front.

So sorry to hear the horrible news. I was a HUGE fan all while growing up in the midwest and everytime you heard someone talking about racing the name Chuck Amati was for sure to be mentioned at some point. A true icon and also responsible for helping keep alot of dirt tracks alive just simply because of his legendary status and what he has brought to this sport. RIP

chuck thanks for being a good friend
and the one memory is when he raced at mtvernon speedway and had won several feature and myself and others had gathered up 3 grand
if chuck would start in the back of the 18 car field and he won the race
we have talked about that race 100
times
i also told him that if he had been born 20 years later he would have made lots of money.
my family will always remember chuck
and his famous wave to the crowd after he won the features...

Chuck was a good man. He had too much pain. I'm glad he is at peace now at least. He was one of my favorite coffee drinkers where I used to work. I was quite fond of him as everyone was.
