Daisy Reames Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Sep. 9, 2008.
REAMES, Daisy May Park, died Sunday, September 7, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Irwin and Ruth Sherer Park; husband of 51 years, Willard Anderson Reames Jr.; and sister, Nellie Park Watson and her husband, The Rev. Ira B. Watson Jr. Her B.A. degree was earned from Madison College. She was secretary of the Aeolian Club and was the first person to be chosen as chapel organist for all four years, which required the approval of the College President and her parents. Secretary of the Presbyterian Council and membership in Kappa Delta Pi were two of her favorite co-curricular activities. Her M.S. degree was earned from the University of Richmond. Several of her articles may be found in professional publications. Mrs. Reames was the recipient of many honors during the 36 years she served as an educator. She retired from Thomas Dale High School as Administrator for Curriculum and Instruction in 1978. Until recently, she was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she served as President of the Women, Superintendent of the Vacation Bible School, Chairman of the Covenant Post Graduates, an Elder, Teacher of the Adult Sunday School class, and for many years was Chairman of the annual World Day of Prayer for Petersburg and the surrounding area, which was sponsored by the Church Women United in the U.S.A and the International Committee. On the eighth day of November 1998, she was elected Elder Emeritus of Covenant Presbyterian Church and this was one of her treasured moments because her church had always been the center of her life. Mrs. Reames is survived by her brother, The Rev. Robert F. Park; her stepson-in-law, Lawrence C. Powell; her stepgrandchildren, William L. Powell (Gladys) and Becky Powell Williams; and her great-grandson, Brandon Scott Williams. Also surviving are five beloved nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 12 noon, with interment at Blandford Cemetery. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, where condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.

I certainly do miss talking to Aunt Daisy on the phone each week and the visits we have had over the years. She was my dad's sister. I know she will be missed by a lot of people.
