Taylor Slaughter Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 9 to Oct. 10, 2008.
SLAUGHTER, Taylor, age 56, passed away at his Waterloo Farm home on October 6, 2008, after a long illness. Taylor was born on October 1, 1952 to Warren T. and Lilian H. Slaughter of Reedville. He graduated from Northumberland High School in 1971, and attended college until he was called for national service in the United States Army. After his tour of duty, he returned to Reedville to work with his father in the family business, Huff & Puff Pet Foods, Inc. Taylor's interests and talents, however, took him in other directions. He moved to Baltimore, Md., completing his Bachelor of Science degree at Towson State University in 1985. Taylor worked many years in the hospitality and food service business, taking positions in Baltimore and Richmond, where he opened his own restaurant and catering business, Mathew's Caf-eli. Taylor later returned to live at Waterloo and work in Reedville. The position of which he was most proud was the conversion of the old Reedville Market into a restaurant which he named Elijah's, in honor of his great- great-grandfather, founder of the town. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his son, Mathew J. Slaughter of Richmond; sisters, Betty Nuckols of Richmond and Jude Kelly of Virginia Beach; brother-in-law, Thomas Kelly; and nieces, Virginia and Brooke Kelly, all of whom grieve his passing, but are joyful for his resting peace. Services will be held at 811 Main St., Reedville, Va., on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 77, Reedville, Va. 22539, or to Northumberland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1, Reedville, Va. 22539. Online remembrances may be made at faulknerfamilyfuneralhome.com. Faulkner Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Burgess, Va., is helping the family with the arrangements.

Rest in peace my friend.
Just to let you know Taylor, as you were being laid to rest, I was celebrating my one year wedding anniversary with live music in the back yard..and great food of course.I thought you might like to know that.

I am so sorry to hear this. I remember Taylor in school. Taylor was a year behind me. I finished in 1970. I remember that smile that he had at all time. God bless you and remember that Taylor is no longer suffering.

Warren was a wonderful friend, he, Carol Stevens and myself were mischievous in high school, but it was all in fun. I remember he was always smiling and laughing.. I will miss him.

To the Slaugter family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember when I met Taylor and started working for him and Cindy at the cafe and helping with the menu and the murel they painted for me. I have such fond memories of the good times we had. Kat
