JAMES, Charlotte Miles, 98, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2009, after a brief illness. Mrs. James was the widow of the late Paul James of Leesburg, Virginia. Mrs. James was born in Mathews County, Virginia, on July 22, 1911, and was the daughter of the late Captain John H. Miles Jr. and Annie Green Miles of Mathews. Mrs. James attended public school in Mathews County, graduated from Mathews High School, and subsequently received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She then embarked upon a career as an elementary school teacher, teaching in schools in Fairfax and Prince William Counties, Virginia. After her retirement, Mrs. James enjoyed travel in England and Europe and was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, whose games she frequently attended. Mrs. James is survived by her sister, Katherine M. Lewis of Richmond, Virginia; her nephew, S. Miles Dumville, and his wife, Stephanie, and son, Miles, of Richmond, Virginia; and her nephew, William Page Miles, his wife, Eva, and their children, Joey and Anna, of Ashburn, Virginia. Funeral services will be held at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, Virginia, at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, followed by burial at the Green Family Cemetery in Mathews. Following the services, the family will greet friends at a reception in the Social Hall of the Westville Christian Church in Mathews Court House.
