David R. Marrs, 67, of Afton, died at his residence on Thursday, December 2, 2010.

He was born on April 28, 1943, in Albemarle County, to the late Clarence R. Marrs and Julia W. Wilson Marrs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sheena Marrs; and a brother, Clarence Wayne Marrs.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Shifflett and her husband, Lee, of Batesville, Virginia; and son, David D. Marrs and his wife, Annie, of Louisa, Virginia; one sister, Glenda Gregory of Newberg, South Carolina; and one brother, Roger Wilson Marrs of Whitmire, South Carolina.

We would like to express our deepest sympathies for the loss of your father, Amy and Dwayne. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness we feel. David was a special uncle to Casey, and Dana, and a warm, caring, and talented brother to me. I loved to listen to him play the guitar and sing. I always asked him to sing the Merle Haggard song, "Sing Me Back Home" every time he would break out the guitar. I would always tear up when he sang that song, and I think he sang it better than Merle. We miss him terribly, but we know he longed to be with Sheena whom he loved with all of his heart. Our love and prayers are with you all during this time of sorrow. May God comfort you and give you peace. We will cherish the memory of David and Sheena, and their undying love for one another.

Glenda and Casey Gregory, and Dana and Marcus Robertson.
