Warren Whiting

Warren Whiting of Crozet, Virginia, departed this life on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Charlottesville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Yancey Mills, Virginia, on December 11, 1922, the son of the late Mote and Blanche Whiting. Warren was also preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Whiting; a son, George T. Harris; three brothers, Fred, Harry and Langhorn Whiting; four sisters, Blanche Hardy, Edna Harris, Adele Whiting, and Nancy Barnett.

Warren accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Piedmont Baptist Church. After serving time in the United States Army and many years of living in Charlottesville, Warren united with the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Charlottesville under the leadership of Dr. R. A. Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 65 plus years, Helen; a daughter, W. Lynn Walker and her husband, Wayne, of Silver Spring, Maryland; son, Gary Whiting and his wife, S. Theresa of Charlottesville, Virginia; three granddaughters, Sonya Schoen of Accokeek, Maryland, Karen Rodwell of Orange, Virginia, and Brittany Whiting of Charlottesville, Virginia; two grandsons, George Harris of Columbus, South Carolina, and Christopher Bland Harris of Michigan; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Mote Whiting of Chicago, Illinois; one sister, Betsy Woodfolk of Charlottesville; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at Mt. Zion First African American Baptist Church with Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the funeral home.
