Delos Bryan Mahaffey Jr. born July 16th, 1924 went home to the Lord on October 24th, 2025.
He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Mildred Grantham Mahaffey, son Harlon Mahaffey (Lisa) and daughter Janet Mahaffey. Also by two grandchildren, Kaitlin Craft (Cody) and Karleigh Sykes (Jesse) and by 5 great-grand children, Carter, Caroline, and Cora Jane Craft, and Mattie and Micah Sykes.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Delos B. Sr. and Mattie Walker Mahaffey of Mendenhall, Simpson County, Mississippi.
Delos graduated Mendenhall High School in 1941 and then attended Copiah Lincoln Jr. College until he was drafted into the Army in 1943. As a Veteran of World War II, he served in the 790th Combat Military Police. Upon his return he attended Millsaps College where he played football and graduated with a BS in Chemistry. He was employed by the Mississippi Department of Transportation and retired after over 35 years.
Delos was very active in Forest Hill High School sports and Forest Hill Baptist Church where he coached their softball and boys baseball leagues.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.
He served as a Gideon for over 50 years, leading devotions at the Mississippi School for the Blind and assisting with the Prison Ministry.
Delos’ philosophy was to try to make someone smile each day, but mainly to be soul winner for the Lord.
