It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry Edward Thompson Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, who departed this life on October 24, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 16, 1942, Jerry lived a life rich in love, service, and cherished memories.
A proud graduate of Washington County High School, Jerry demonstrated unwavering commitment through his service in the Army National Guard. He dedicated many years to his career at Ciba Corporation, where he made invaluable contributions to the chemical plant and the community.
Jerry was an active and devoted member of the Hobson Assembly of God, where he found strength and fellowship among his church family. His faith was a guiding light, shaping his character and how he interacted with those around him.
An outdoorsman at heart, Jerry found joy in fishing, hunting, and riding horses. He embraced every opportunity to participate in benefit trail rides, always eager to support worthwhile causes. This love for the outdoors reflected not just a pastime, but a passion for sharing those experiences with family and friends.
Jerry deeply loved his family, nurturing bonds that spanned generations. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marjorie Thompson; children, Kathy (Scott) Harris, J.J. (Amy) Thompson, and Robert (Earline) Dees; grandchildren, Kolby Thornton, Kyle Thornton, Brandon Woodard, Elizabeth Nadal, Bobby Dees, and Jeremy Dees; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Dean, Edith and Frances; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of his world. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will forever be etched in their hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Cornelius Thompson Sr. and Leona Goldman Thompson as well as nine siblings: Leroy, Boy, Sue, Elma, Kenneth, Sophie, Sis, Bert, and Mary Catherine.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Jerry's life on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Hobson Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Steve Foster officiating. Interment will follow in Jones Beech Cemetery. It will be a time to reflect on the cherished memories and the profound impact he had on so many lives.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Dees, Kolby Thornton, Brandon Woodard, Ken Thompson, Donovan Nadal, and Kyle Thornton.
As we say our goodbyes, we take solace in knowing that Jerry Edward Thompson Sr. will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a nurturer of dreams, and a beloved figure whose spirit will continue to guide us through the love he shared.
