Betty Hicks Herron

Betty Hicks Herron, 81, of Waynesboro, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011, at Birch Gardens of Royal Care, Staunton.

She was born March 17, 1929, in Waynesboro, Virginia, a daughter of Charles and Glenna (Roberts) Hicks.

She graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1945. Along with her husband, she managed the former Hicks Service Station. She was a life master Bridge player. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter "Woody" Herron; and two sisters, Charlotte Dugan and Jean Jones.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, daughter, Ann Dexter Androla and her husband, Ron, of Erie, Pennsylvania; son, Alex Herron and his wife, Jerry, of Waynesboro; daughter, Heidi Shipman and her husband, Chris, of Waynesboro; son, Eric Herron and his wife, Gretchen, of Johnson City, Tennessee; daughter, Jolie Hendrix and her husband, Scott, of North Garden, Virginia.

Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren, Addison Herron-Wheeler, Jon and Eric Herron, Kate Slaymaker, Ryne, Andy, Jeremy and Sam'l Shipman, Devin Plaas, Austin Woody Herron, and Ivy and Charlotte Hendrix; three great-grandchildren, Gage and Kale Herron, and Kenzie Shipman.

Interment will be private at Augusta Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at McDow Funeral Home.
