Floyd Aylor Obituary

Published by Found and Sons Funeral Chapels & Cremation Service - Culpeper on Aug. 13, 2010.

Floyd I. Aylor Floyd I. Aylor, age 68, of Sherwood, Oregon, died August 7, 2010. He was born in Madison, Va., son of Russell Bryant Aylor and Ruth May Berry Aylor in 1942, residing there until after graduation from Virginia Tech. He was President of Columbia Empire Farms and lived in Oregon for the past 34 years.

After attaining an undergraduate degree in 1964, he also earned his Masters in Economics from Virginia Tech. Later he received a Masters degree in Christian Leadership from Western Seminary located in Portland, Oregon.

Virginia Tech was a military academy when he attended and upon graduation he was commissioned in the U.S. Army serving as 1st Lieutenant Instructor of Computer Science and War Games.

After his Army service he worked for Shell Chemical Company in Chemical and Drug sales. He moved to Dundee, Oregon in 1976, to join his best friend and Corp of Cadets brother, Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr. in building Columbia Empire Farms. From their efforts the company has grown to be acknowledged as one of Oregon's largest farming operations. Columbia Empire Farms encompasses more than 60,000 acres on both sides of the mountain and is vertically integrated in berries, hazelnuts, hay, cattle, preserves, honey, grapes, wine and candies.

Floyd Aylor was well recognized in the Newberg, Dundee, and McMinnville communities. He was President of the Newberg Rotary, Mayor of Dundee, President of Michelbook Country Club, Chairman of the Newberg School District Board, and served for thirteen years on the Committee of Ministers for Prespretary of Cascades for the Presbyterian Church.

As Rotary President he started their auction and the Paul Harris Fellowship Program which has grown to more than 140 Paul Harris Fellows. During his final days he was very expressive in his feelings about the program. He said, "When we realize what Rotary does here locally and around the world, it makes me value the friendships I have made over the years and appreciate being a part of an organization that does so much to advance peace around the world."

Our community has lost a respected, honorable, and gifted servant of God, his fellow workers, and mankind. Our love of him will endure, but his presence will be missed.

He is survived by his son, John Andrew Aylor, his brothers, John Russell Aylor (Barbara) and Robert Bruce Aylor (Becky), his sister, Mary Ann Jenkins (Danny), and his Corp of Cadets Brother and best friend, Dr. Robert B. Pamplin, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA with Rev. John Farrar officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Aylor, Steve, Aylor, Charles Suit, Fred Rankin, Gary Rankin and Mark Rankin.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave., Suite B, Winchester, VA 22601 An online guestbook and tribute wall is available at www.foundandsons.com
