WINTER HAVEN - Beloved local dentist Dr. David W. Murchison, Jr., 66, of Winter Haven unexpectedly passed away on October 1, 2015. He was born in Long Island, New York and was raised in Hollywood, Florida.
After his undergraduate studies, David attended Medical College of Virginia where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree. He served in the Navy as a dentist for the following ten years before coming to Winter Haven. David practiced General Dentistry in Winter Haven since 1983.
He leaves his beloved wife of 45 years, Elizabeth; his son David and his wife Deanna; a daughter Kim and her husband Perry Nason. He is also survived by his mother, Joye Murchison Kelly and her husband Jack. He leaves a brother Robb and his wife Linda of Naples, FL and a sister Sally Boyd and her husband Don of West Palm Beach, FL; two nieces, Christy and Laura and a nephew, Donald. He also leaves his grand-daughters Mackenzie and Delaney.
A memorial service will be held at Beymer Memorial United Methodist Church located at 700 N. Lake Howard Drive in Winter Haven on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the USO or the Humane Society of Polk County.

Great guy, great dentist. He pulled no punches and told you straight what you needed to do and what he could do to take care of your problems. He will be missed, not least because we still had work planned!

I was Dr.Murchisons patient for 25 years. He took his job seriously but had a great sense of humor.In times when I would gave financial struggles and needed expensive procedures he always told me to just make payments and I did.
I will sorely miss him. We have lost such a good man.

As a patient of Dr. Westphal (RIP) I occasionally saw Dr. Murchison for various issues in Westphal's absence. Dr. Murchison was a true professional, caring and tender. My most vivid memory was on Halloween one year when he dressed as a clown, full wig and big red nose; that was something I will never forget for he made me laugh so hard! My sympathy to all the family and co-workers. May the good memories carry you all through this hard time.

Just did not believe it at first but the reality is we have lost a great man.
Dr. murchison and Bobby have been our dentist for 36 years.
They are family to us.
Going to miss him very much.

Dave has been a good friend to my family for many years. He and his father both were kind and gentle. My brother Dave, as indeed all of our family, has always held Dr. Murchison in high esteem! I loved to sit and talk with him about his adventures while serving in the Navy! He will be much missed by many. The Dubose and Bieber Families pray for peace and comfort to his family.

Dr. Murchinson was such a gentle, sensitive, kind hearted man. He was a fantastic dentist and put his patients at ease. I would drive an hour each way just for Dr. Murchinson to be my dentist. He was worth it. My heart and prayers go out to his family, friends, employees, and other patients. You will be greatly missed Dr. Murchinson. You were the best dentist I have ever experienced. But more so than a dentist, an incredibly kind hearted, sensitive, kind man. It's a sad day when you died. You added so much light to the world. Your life made a difference and for that I thank you.
