Harold Berkeley

BERKELEY, Harold Carey, 90, of Richmond, died Sunday, December 12, 2010. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Willie Lee and Willie Carey Berkeley; and his daughter, Jean Berkeley Bliley. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jane Grey Atkinson Berkeley; his daughter, Peggy L. Berkeley; his son-in-law, Norbert Michael Bliley (Kathryn); his two grandsons, Michael Carey Bliley (Jenny) and Ryan Berkeley Martin (Katie Harris); and his three great-grandsons, Joshua Graham Bliley, James Carey Bliley and Ryan Berkeley Martin Jr. He was born in Richmond and graduated from John Marshall High School, Campbell University and The University of Richmond. Harold was a member of Chamberlayne Baptist Church, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Northside Lodge #292 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Temple, past member of the Richmond Jaycees and North Richmond Kiwanis. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during WW II, achieving the rank of Lt. Commander. His service included both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bliley's - Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be private.
