Robert Bryan Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 25, 2009.
BRYAN, Robert "Bob" Sr., 81, of Glen Allen, Va., died on Friday, November 20, 2009. His wife of 51 years, Laura "Lona" Bryan; his daughter, Shirley Frazier; and his son, Robert "Bob" Bryan Jr., were at his bedside at the time. His love extended to the rest of his family is daughter-in-law, Susan Bryan; his three grandchildren, Michael Fraizer, Katelyn Bryan and Mason Bryan; and two great-grandchildren, Luke Fraizer and Rebekah Fraizer, all of Richmond. He is also survived by his brother, John L. Bryan of Frederick, Md. As a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church, he was a dedicated Christian who modeled his life after the teachings of Jesus Christ by spreading God's word throughout his life. Upon graduating from the University of Maryland, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant and rose to the rank of Captain as he served in the Korean conflict. Upon discharge from the U.S. Army he joined Southern States cooperative where he retired in 1987 after 33 years of service as the Vice President of Member and Public Affairs. Through his devoted career with Southern States and his affiliation with the University of Maryland, Bryan received many awards and special recognitions. Later Bryan began volunteering in the Pathology lab at Henrico Doctors' Hospital, Parham Road, where he was awarded the "Frist Humanitarian Award." Bryan's family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Henrico Doctors' Hospital, especially the Pathology lab, for their unending love of Bob while he was there for five and a half years. Bryan's family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the Members of Derbyshire Baptist Church, Staples Mill Road Baptist Church and Winfree Memorial Baptist Church for their many prayers, visits and other aids given to them during this difficult time. While his passing will leave a void in all of the lives he touched, we want to celebrate Bob's past life and his new life with Jesus Christ, at Derbyshire Baptist Church the afternoon of Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Bryan had asked that donations be given to either: Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229, Staples Mill Road Baptist Church, 10101 Staples Mill Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23060, or to Winfree Memorial Baptist Church, 13617 Midlothian Tpke., Midlothian, Va. 23113. Please include Bob Bryan's name on your memorial contribution. If you are searching for a church home, Bryan and his family hope that you would consider one of these churches who have faithfully supported us as an extended family of believers who are teaching and practicing God's Word daily.
