We were just talking about the teachers in our lives. Mr Caldwell was first in my memories. He taught and guided me at Woodward HS. I respected him more than any teacher I ever had. I've thought of him often. Thank you for all you did for me. Rest In Peace.

Mr. Caldwell took me under his wing at
Woodward in the 60's when I was being bullied by some boys. He was always fair with us and firm, yet understanding. Even years later when I saw him he remembered me. My sympathy extends to his family...he was truly a great man.

"Out Stickney" will never be the same. I remember when I graduated from college my dad had me spend the day with Mr. Caldwell. I had to bring a resume and sit with him for a mock interview. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!!!! He was a remarkable man of great knowledge but FUN!!!
Ms. Caldwell I am praying for you. We often talked about how much you loved your daddy and what a blessing it was to have a great role model.
May God bless and keep the Caldwell family during this time.

Our sympathy goes out to your Caldwell family. Mr. Caldwell will truly be missed. He was a exemplary community leader and was a exceptional role model to citizens in the North End of Toledo, Ohio. The North End Community House which Mr. Caldwell headed was a life-line in the 70's and 80's for myself and many other children as well as adults. The ton of trips out of town kept children out of trouble and exposed them to a taste of the American Dream. May God bless you Mr. Caldwell and rest in peace, there few public stewards that can measure to the missionary service, community impact and lives that you enhanced. With heartfelt love, the Fane Family.

The legacy of Mr. James Caldwell continues throughout the lives of the many young people impacted by his generosity, passion and commitment to philanthropy. As a recipient of the 50 Men & Women Scholarship, my early academic experience was influenced by the local investment of the Toledo community. Mr. Caldwell never hesitated to express his joy, pride and support for students. I am thankful for his legacy. Our prayers are with you during this time. To the Caldwell family - I too am one of the "out Stickney kids" who benefited from your father's advice and mentoring. In my case, it was after his first time as EOPA Board President. He remained committed to EOPA and during my tenure there (1975-1983) he offered me great advice and took an active interest in my career. He always had time to talk with me; and he, along with Wayman Palmer, Charles Penn, Arthur J. Crouch and Norman Bell, was always trying to make sure that this north end kid was prepared and successful. He had an enormous influence on so many of us! Please know how much he meant to us all.

To Mrs. Caldwell, Kim (Little Sis), and James Jr. I was so sorry to hear about our loss. Whenever I saw him or talked to him he called me daughter. All through high school and my adult life whenever I needed help with programs at the University of Toledo or the Stickney Reunions he was always willing to help. I will miss him.

As a 1997 50 Men and Women Scholarship recipient, I truly appreciate everything Mr. Caldwell, through the orgnaization and outside the organization, taught and afforded me while completing my degree. I worked with Mr. Caldwell when I was the pastor at St. Vincent de Paul on Woodward Avenue. He helped smooth my transition from a country parish to the central city of Toledo. "Let him rest from his labors, for his good works accompany him," to paraphrase the Book of Revelation.
