It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of C. Rodney Cline, of Boonsboro, MD, who left us peacefully on June 3, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Rodney was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. Born on August 19,1939 in Boonsboro, MD, he was the son of the late Grayson and Ruth Cline. Rodney is survived by his loving wife Connie of almost 59 years. He is survived by his three daughters, Jennifer Poffenberger (Mark), Julie Williams (Kurt), Laura Iager (Matthew). He was a devoted grandfather and extremely proud of his grandchildren, Zachary Poffenberger, (Dana), Klaire Williams, Zane Poffenberger,,Noah Iager, Taylor Williams, and Brooke Iager. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Hefner, brother-in-law, Roy May, Jr, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen May, and Charlotte Mullendore.
Rodney was raised on a farm in Boonsboro, MD and graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1957. His first job was at Eyerly's Department store in
Hagerstown, MD. He then worked for the Maryland Artificial Breeding Coop for 4 years. He served his country and enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in 1962 to 1968 with the rank of sergeant. Rodney had a 40-year career with C&P Telephone Company, later becoming Verizon. He had multiple positions during his tenure. He retired in 2002 as a supervisor with the company.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boonsboro where he had served as Council president, chaired, and served on many different church committees. One of his cherished projects was the recent installation of the chimes at Trinity. He also served for over 30 years on the Boonsboro Cemetery Board. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge Friendship number 82 in
Hagerstown, MD. Rodney chaired the Multiple Sclerosis walk in Hagerstown for many years. He was actively involved in the Boonsboro High School Band Boosters for many years. He was a member of the landlord association in Hagerstown where he served many years on the board of directors and chaired the membership committee. Rodney was a landlord for 40 years and after retirement he enjoyed working at his apartments.
He was very proud of his family and cherished their family Myrtle Beach trips. Together with his wife, he was blessed with many opportunities to travel including visiting all fifty states and rafting the Colorado river. They took many cruises, river trips, and traveled to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Washington County for their exceptional care given to Rodney.
Services will be held Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 64 South Main Street Boonsboro, MD, with the Rev. Karl Muhlbach officiating. The service will be livestreamed via Facebook on Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Facebook page.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North,
Hagerstown, MD.Interment will be at the Boonsboro Cemetery,
Boonsboro, MD.In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300,
