Darmyn Lee Plain

Darmyn Lee Plain, age 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022 peacefully at home under the care of his loving family and Iowa River Hospice.
Mass of Christian Burial for Darmyn will take place on Monday, September 19 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 9:30 A.M. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Darmyn and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Darmyn was born September 20, 1933 at home in Crawford County, Iowa to parents Carl and Helena (Simons) Plain. After graduating from Rockwell City High School, he went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Navy.
After meeting the love of his life, Norma Waddle, they were united in marriage on November 21, 1959 in Grinnell, Iowa, where they made their home for 10 years. They relocated to Marshalltown, where Darmyn worked in the composing room as a typesetter for the Times-Republican newspaper. He was a faithful member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. In his free time, Darmyn enjoyed woodworking, driving and taking trips, visiting many state capitol buildings across the United States and visiting family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Norma; their children: Marilyn Spence of Marshalltown, Kenneth (Linda) Plain of NC, Steven Plain of Marshalltown, Michael (Sherry) Plain of FL, David (Christy) Plain of Des Moines and Kevin (Sheila) Plain of CO; 13 grandchildren: Andy, Amber, Trisha, Hannah, Katie, Justin, Benjamin, Emily, Elizabeth, Kaleah, Madelyn, Teagan and Cadmon; 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way and numerous nieces and nephews.
In eternal life he is reunited with his parents, five siblings, grandson Joshua and son-in-law Mark Spence.
