Donnie Mack McCurry, 78, of Conway went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 1, 2024 following a recent illness.
Mr. Don, as he was lovingly known, was born in Gastonia, NC on May 2, 1945 to Earl L. and Viola Mae (Turner) McCurry. After serving in the U.S. Army, he had a 25+ year career working for Belk stores mostly in Gainesville, GA. While living in Gainesville, Mr. Don was an active member of the Lions Club and First Baptist Church where he and his wife, Becky, taught the 5 year old Sunday school class for 10 years. After retiring from Belk and returning to Conway, he filled his days managing Bucksport Marina and Restaurant where his love of boating and fishing were on prominent display. Throughout the following years he went on to work for Maxway, Rose's and Palmetto Goodwill. He was most recently employed in the SNAP division of SC DSS.
Don was a current member of Waccamaw House of Worship. His love and faith in Jesus Christ was evident to everyone he encountered. His giving spirit allowed Don to help and touch the lives of so many in his community. Don will be remembered for his love of "dad jokes," his family and the pride he had of being Paw Paw to his grandchildren.
Mr. Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pat Bobst. Survivors include his loving wife, Becky (Paul) McCurry; two children: Brian McCurry (Betsy) of Germantown, TN and Meredith Sharp (Bryone) of Atascocita, TX; three bonus children: Bob Dennis (Angie) of Conway, Jeremy Dennis of Jefferson, GA and Miranda Hatfield of Conway; eleven grandchildren: Ben (Kaitlyn), Bailey and Brooke McCurry, Gracie and Caroline Sharp, Baylee Gill (Jay), Tanner and Charleigh Dennis, Layla Brygider, Luke and Stella Hatfield; and one sister: Carolyn McCurry of Mount Holly, NC.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Waccamaw House of Worship at 7839 Hwy 701 South, Conway, SC 29527.
Cremation Services Direct (843-651-1194) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is assisting the family with the arrangements.
