Doris Florence Tinsley

Doris Florence Thurman Tinsley, 98, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, January 31, 2025 in Shelbyville.
Doris was born in Eminence on September 23, 1926. She and James Tinsley were married on September 25, 1946 at the home of the bride's parents by the Rev. Dewey Bennett, pastor of Salem Baptist Church.
Doris had a long career in retail sales at various stores in Shelbyville. In February of 1957 she was presented with a JJ Newberry gold pin recognizing her for her dedication to the company and her hard work. In 1968 she received a letter of accommodation from Lawson's for her loyalty, commitment and work ethic. She finished her longstanding sales/buying career with Wakefield Scearce Galleries at the young age of 90 years old. No matter where she was working her smile and warmth greeted you as you walked in the store and you knew Doris was there to help you with whatever you needed.
At this point in her life she sold her home, moved to Amber Oaks and remained an avid, loyal UK basketball fan up to the very end.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Tinsley; her parents, Thomas and Ida Sutherland Thurman; her sisters, Kay Thurman Burk and her husband, Walter; Mary Ann Thurman Stivers and her husband, Lawrence; her brother, Arnold Thurman and his wife Jeanette; and her nephew, Steve Burk.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Doug Thurman (Karen), Chuck Thurman (Sue), Tom Thurman (Lynn), Ellen Robison (Craig), Vanessa Davis (Doug), several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Shannon Funeral Home. Visitation will be after 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
