Dorothy Whitaker Obituary
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 35 years, James Whitaker; mother, Mary Sanmarco; father, Stan Sherwood; sons, Jonathan Whitaker, Justin Whitaker and his wife, Samantha, and Jason Whitaker; grandchildren, Asher Whitaker and Emery Whitaker; and siblings, Kathy Sherwood, Cindy Sherwood, Evelyn Sherwood, Steven Sherwood, and Andy Sherwood.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Melissa Sherwood; and her step-father, Joe Sanmarco.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, 100 W Magnolia Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM. A funeral mass will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 255 North 8th Street, Ponchatoula, Louisiana 70454, beginning at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow in Rosaryville Cemetery, Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

I met Dorothy many years ago when we were both in our twenties. Dorothy use to abstract for us and we became friendly. I use to run into her in the courthouse in Orleans and we would sit and talk about what was going on in our lives. The last time I ran into her she had her son working with her. She was always so nice and also funny. Sending love and prayers to her family as I know she will be missed.

God bless this beautiful woman, her dedication to our God, her faith, and her family. She is the epitome of what we should all strive to be. Her heart was so full and giving. In the few times we've had the pleasure, I've experienced nothing less than joy, support and the perfection that is Mrs. Dorothy. Amazing beyond what actual words could express. I hope that some day I may be able to live up to even half of what this amazing woman has been in the lives she has touched.

I knew and worked with Dorothy for over 20 years. She was invaluable to me and a good friend. I miss her so much and our epic conversations about the world of abstracting and real estate and everything in between.
